As new and unique markets open in the city, drawing public attention and a desire for a more personal shopping experience, the original Municipal Market has withstood the test of time.

At times, the market’s very presence was threatened by neglect, lack of funding, and what was otherwise progress.

“Judge Okays Plan to Clean Up Market”

DAVID MORRISON, The Atlanta Constitution (1946-1984); May 11, 1974

“U. S. District Judge Newell Edenfield has agreed to an 18-point clean-up program that will keep federal health officials from shutting down Atlanta’s Municipal Market.”

However, much like the Eveready Bunny, no matter what, it just kept going. Receiving funds in the 90s, the market was pulled out of the fire and granted a new life.

Still struggling to make it through the early 2000s, management was able to make some much needed repairs with 1.8 Million in combined funds received from both stimulus and community block grants.

Between fire and flood, the market is still standing and we like to think back to its original glory.
